Day 8 is Joshua 22:5 and I ponder my heart and soul.  As I write the words my grandson and I talk about the soul.  'Nephesh' in Hebrew and used about 754 times in the Old Testament.  Genesis 2:7, humanity receives a unique impartation as the Lord God Almighty breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man BECAME a living being.  A living being with a beating heart, 'lebab' in Hebrew and used about 252 times.  "Scripture consistently treats the heart as the decisive arena where covenant faithfulness or rebellion is settled." Heart and soul, life and breath - Hold Fast to the Living, Breathing God!!

Day 9 is Joshua 23:14, Joshua is now very old and giving his final words to the leaders and elders, judges and officers of Israel.  People's final words are important and often we seek to honor their last words.  Joshua reminds them of everything they have seen the Lord do in his lifetime.  How God with them allowed them to enter and occupy the land God promised to them.  Then he gives them warning to be very careful how they lived in that land by following the Lord's commands and loving God with all their heart.  God has not failed in any of the promises He gave them.  They were to root their life in remembering what God had done for them.  They forgot, we forget.  They broke the covenant, God gave a new covenant in the blood of His Son Jesus.  God is always rescuing the humanity He gave the breath of life.  I trace the words onto the artwork.  In the very end of time, whether it be my time here on earth or the end of time itself, NOT ONE of all the good promises of the Lord will fail, they will all be fulfilled.  The question remains, will I love Him with all my heart and soul and live in covenant faithfulness?  Or will rebellion be the settled state of my heart?  As for me and my house, we will love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul!  May you choose well.
